John is an excellent trainer. He really worked with my strengths and weaknesses. I went in knowing absolutely nothing about fitness and health but even I was able to have success. When I started working with John I weighed almost 300 pounds and at the end I was a strong 225 and still losing. The best thing about working with him was just the amount of knowledge he has at his disposal. Every session I felt like I learned something new. From a complete new lift, nutrition advice or even a life changing stretch that I can't go without now. John gave me the tools to help succeed in my fitness journey. With those tools I was able to Squat 315 lbs and deadlift 405 lbs. Never did I ever think I would be able to do a single full pullup let alone deadlift more than I weighed at my heaviest.

If you’re trying to lose weight and get healthy, hire John Timmons! He’s worth every penny!! I tried losing weight on my own, I even went to the gym nearly everyday for several months, I can’t believe that didn’t work, but it didn’t. I got lucky and found John, and with his help, I’ve lost nearly 75lbs the healthy way!! He customized a plan for me, but he’s extremely thoughtful about your specific situation. As I grow older being healthy and in shape is important to me, but I tried working out on my own and still lost strength and gained weight.
The best thing I’ve done to get back in shape was signing up with personal trainer, John. He guided me through a series of fun workouts and healthy eating advice! Of course, I was skeptical at first because the next day I could move and actually felt great. To help me reach my goals, he prescribed a mixture of functional training, weight lifting, active stretching, and aerobic workouts which turned out to be spot on! I gained strength, lost 30 pounds and kept it off for over 2 years. John’s breadth of knowledge and experience keeps the workouts interesting and fun, I really didn’t know there could be so many different ways to switch it up!

John has been my personal trainer on and off for the last couple of years. My favorite things about him are that 1) he will never make me do something that looks ridiculous, 2) he pushes me with a perfect blend of encouragement and challenge; 3) he is strategic in his approach to developing my workout skills, and 4) he introduces me to new exercises when I’m ready, even if I’m not sure that I am. I had been given John’s information but waited months prior to calling him because I was embarrassed where my weight was at. I did not want to say the number and he never asked. I offered it up after a few workouts and there was no gasp or reaction I had imagined in my head.
Nothing I was doing was working, including medical intervention and a nutritionist. I had to do something different.
After many years of gyms, personal trainers, diets, group meetings, plans and loads of money, sweat and tears spent and now menopause; all I ever did was get disappointed and gain any weight back and then some. I had the dreaded 20-pound wall. I could never get quite there even with starvation and physician guided cleansing diets even when friends and family would lose easily (and cheat) on the same programs.
John’s first video call was awesome! He is so full of knowledge and knew right away what my problem was.
My calories were too low and I was not strength training. I was only doing cardio. Which was good for my endurance and heart but not the fat burn that I needed.
I was in starvation mode for my size, my calories were too low 1200.
I needed to push, pull, lift, and bend.
Within a very short time, not changing my food choices much except increasing it and being conscious of better carbs and drinking more water; I lost 24 lbs. in four months.
I now have a wall of sticky notes reminding me of the changes from my knees not hurting, body moving better, 3 clothing sizes down, I like movement and myself more now.
I feel comfortable in my skin not only looking and feeling better but knowing I have the ability to be successful and FINALLY have the right advice and guidance with John’s expertise and positive and infectious attitude.
John not only knows his stuff he lives it.

Working with John was a really wonderful experience. I appreciate how well thought out his workouts were and how he focused more on functionality of fitness and how we move more than anything else. I was challenged and he helped me improve my athleticism and overall fitness. John is what you call "The Best Trainer You Could Possibly Hire".... Where do I begin? My husband trained with him before I ever did, and his mobility improved a ton, and his shoulder pain disappeared. This is a big deal because my husband is super inflexible. He always thought he would never be able to sit on the floor comfortably or reach his arms above his head. But John worked with him and he improved a ton! I held off starting training because I had just had a baby and had all these ideas about "getting in shape" before I hired John haha. I finally started training with him, and I wished I had started sooner! He has a way of catering the workouts to exactly what your body needs. Each person I know who trains with him has completely different workouts than I have. The man is a genius when it comes to the body and how it moves! I was amazed at how much I improved in the way I could move and how strong and capable I was. He has taught me so much about how to get my body to work as a whole unit, how to improve my mobility and most surprisingly, how to get past old injuries that are demobilizing! He's amazing.... let's just leave it at that...

Fantastic! I've been training with Thrive Athletica for just over a month and already feel healthier, stronger and more flexible. John is very encouraging and inspiring. If you are just starting out there is no need to feel intimidated. It’s a very positive experience. He really knows a lot about the science behind each exercise and how it works to build strength. I've seen trainers at other places who just tell you to do three sets of 10 and move on the next. At Thrive Athletica I got a program that is customized to correct my physical imbalances and improve the areas where I'm weak. I don't get to skip leg days anymore, but I've been provided with a series of exercises and movements that build where I am deficient. I'm really excited with the progress. John takes pride in seeing his clients improve and get stronger which is even more motivating. I have to admit that I was skeptical I could get effective personal training while maintaining social distancing guidelines, but it's been great. Best of all, no crowded gym littered with gym bags and bro-tein shakes. Highly recommend.

I have had John as a trainer for over a year. I have had several trainers in the past and none of them were on the same level as John. His knowledge of the body and how to safely-properly exercise combined with his dietary knowledge are invaluable. One of the most important things to me personally was how he makes you feel during the time you spend with him. No one can pump you up, invigorate and motivate you to try your hardest during a session like this man. John Is one hell of a guy who I believe was meant to do this in life.
